Best hair accounts to follow on Instagram

Updated: Mar 15, 2021

Another day, another blog post all about what instagram accounts to follow. My introduction into the professional hair world came long before I got into the makeup industry. From my schooling and fellow colleagues I have been exposed to many different pages for all things hair. The pages I am going to be sharing with you today are my long time followed, consistently viewed accounts. They are my go to for all things hair. Tutorials, inspiration, product recommendations or following the latest trends, these pages will have you covered. Trust me, these accounts will have you in a full blown sprint to the salon for your next hair transformation.

Jen Atkin @jenatkinhair

Jen Atkin is probably one of the most influential hair stylists of our time ( even the NY times seems to think so). Most of you probably heard of her, and if you haven't, this is your introduction. She is known for her celebrity clientele such as the Kardashian- Jenner family, Jessica alba, Chrissy Teigen and so many more. You have also probably seen her on ads for the latest Dyson styling tool too! Oh and have you ever heard of hair care line called "OUAI" or a brand called "Mane Addicts"? Jen is the founder and creator of those two successful companies as well. She is truly a powerhouse when it comes to hair. Not only am I absolutely obsessed with work, but she is also all about bringing the community together and lending a helping hand. She was one of the first stylist online to use her platform to show behind the scenes work and hair tutorials. You can follow her career and snippets of her life on Instagram or you can read her book, "Blowing my way to the top", to get an even closer inside look at her career ( I highly recommend, I will have a review on it coming soon).

Alex Brown @alexbrownhair

Alex Brown is a hair stylist and owner of two salon spaces in Chicago. Alex is a master at creating the natural lived in textured of beachy waves and perfected the sleek pony tail. Back in my salon days, I had the pleasure of attending one of her classes and to this day I am grateful for the opportunity. I truly learned a lot from that class and was able to the take those skills with me when I started my freelancing career. She is truly such a kind, hardworking human. On her instagram page you can find a variety of hair tutorials on her in salon clients and a whole lot of hair inspiration. After taking a scroll through her page, you will be dying to get to the salon for your next hair cut. If you live in the Chicago area, you may want to consider booking an appointment with her or one of the many talented stylist she works alongside with. For my New Yorkers, she pops up in the city every know and then to take clients, so stay on the look out!

Mane Addicts @maneaddicts

Remember when I mentioned Jen Atkin was the owner of this company? Well this is the page I was talking about! Mane Addicts is going to be your go to account for all things hair trends. On this account you will be able to find the latest and upcoming trends within the hair industry. Anything from cut, color, styling or finding hair products, they have you covered. On their website they have articles and content for the hair professional and the beauty consumer. Anything that you could possibly want to know about hair, I guarantee you will be able to find the answer on their page.

Hair Brained @hairbrained_official

Hair brained is an account solely meant for the salon professional but that doesn't mean the fellow beauty lover can't pick up a thing or two from this account. This account is a worldwide house hold name bringing together craft hair dressers. You will be able to find a lovely community of fellow hair dressers show casing their work, sharing cutting/ coloring techniques, tips and tricks and all the hair inspiration one could need. Aside from their instagram page, their website contains a product shop, courses, online group discussions and events. If your a salon professional, this is definitely a community you will want to keep up with. There is nothing better than artists supporting artist. If you are beauty lover, your next cut and color combo awaits you.

Stephanie Brinkerhoff @hairandmakeupbysteph

Stephanie Brinkerhoff is a makeup artist and hair stylist based in Utah. She is most know for her work in special events and bridal. I first came across Stephanie a few years ago when a salon colleague referred me to her bridal work. At the time I was dabbling into wedding makeup and hair and she has incredible courses on hair styling. She has the most beautiful, elegant style when it comes to bridal hair. Her tutorials are also extremely thorough without it being overly complicated. If you are interested in learning bridal/ event hair or you are someone who just wants to learn how to do their own hair, I highly recommend her courses. Her Instagram is filled with so much amazing work, the hair aesthetic will have you scrolling for hours.

Kristin Ess @kristin_ess

Kristin Ess is a celebrity stylist and owner of Kristen Ess Hair. You might recognize her coloring, cutting and styling clients such as Lucy Hale or from her affordable hair care line at Target. Kristin Ess Hair was designed to give consumers luxury products that would help achieve modern, effortless hair without having to sell your arm or leg for it (let's be honest here, some products are crazy expensive). The line consists of products ranging from shampoo and conditioner, glosses, dry and wet stylers, hair tools and hair accessories. On the back of each product it includes directions and a quick styling tip from Kristin herself, making it extremely consumer friendly. You can shop and find more product information and how to's on her site. On her Instagram page she post her latest product releases, hair tutorials and literally the best hair styling pictures you have ever seen (she sells the cutest hair accessories I want them all). For my people who are all about the natural hair texture and the effortless but " I spent time doing my hair, but its not suppose to look like it" hair (I mean that in a good way), this page is for you.
